In the summer 2003 the project "Rescue the Pufflings" was started by the Westman Islands Research Centre and The Natural- and history Museum of Westman Islands. Army of young rescuers, travellers and scientists capture and measure the weight of the pufflings.
The goal is to estimate the number and condition of pufflings that fly each year into the town of Westman Islands during the time of fledging. The sponsor for the project is Sparisjóður Vestmannaeyja (Icebank).
